For this edition of our #LifeAtHireRight series, we are going down under, and hear from one of our team members in Australia! Today, we are talking to Ali Rutledge, a Business Development Lead in Australia. She shares with us her experiences working in the background screening industry and some of her favorite things about #LifeAtHireRight
How long have you worked at HireRight and what is your role?
I started working for PeopleCheck (a background screening company acquired by HireRight) in April 2017. My role is Business Development Lead – Sales and Compliance.
What do you love most about your job?
Easily the people! I have made strong connections and friendships with my fellow colleagues, which I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. I also cherish those business relationships made with customers. It is really rewarding to help people and make their experience with us smooth and positive.
At HireRight, we’re committed to putting the “Customer First.” What does that mean to you?
Customer First means just that, putting the customer first. Ensuring the customer is happy and receiving the best service they can get. It means spending that extra bit of time to help them out and nurture the relationship. It means treating a customer how you want to be treated and always remembering that we are all human and approach every situation with compassion and understanding.
What is your proudest moment at HireRight?
My proudest moment at HireRight was winning our internal CORE4 award for “Grounded in Respect.” This award is held in high regard and quite honestly, not the easiest to receive given the number of incredible employees that HireRight has.
What would you tell someone looking to get into background screening industry?
Before I began working for PeopleCheck/HireRight, I did not even know that background screening was an industry. It is such a niche industry and is always full of surprises! No two days are the same, each day is filled with something new and exciting, and presents an opportunity to grow and learn. I would say absolutely go for it! You will see a different side of recruitment in this world!
How is HireRight different from other places you have worked?
I previously worked in retail jobs before being hired at HireRight. My role at the other workplaces was always on my feet, always inconsistent work hours, and a lot of people I did not see often because we were on different shifts. Although I loved retail, what I love about working at HireRight is consistency and spending each day with the same amazing people.
What is #LifeAtHireRight to you?
#LifeAtHireRight is an awareness that we are just one big family – understanding that we all have our own personal lives and how they intertwine with our work lives. It allows people to get to know each other on a personal level and in turn, helps us work better as a team.
Tell us a little about your team and workspace.
Being remote for the past two years, I have learned to get used to seeing my colleagues virtually and interacting this way. We catch up often, have team meetings and play fun games to keep things interesting!
What is it like working for HireRight in Australia?
It’s great – I learn new things every day alongside the most amazing people. Even during tough times, you always have a great group of people there to support you, celebrate you, lift you up and laugh with you.
What are our customers’ needs in Australia, and how does that differ from the rest of the world?
Every customer, in every industry and every region, have totally different requirements, expectations and standards. Within Australia, we have different cities and states, and customers on the west coast are completely different from customers on the east coast.
